BACK STORY COMPETITION ---
This is an optional contest for forum members who are interested in winning in-character prizes. If you are interested in participating, please read thoroughly.
CONTEST PREMISE.Participants will compete by writing a detailed back story that accommodates information already given on the site, and explains the functioning of our in-character world presently.
For example, before writing, one would refer to Narcomany's Plot Information, which summarizes the back story in about four hundred words. A contest participant would pick a specific event from the plot to flesh out such as, but not limited to, the separation of a single monarchy into the Western and Eastern divisions, the implementation of the Feudal system, the discovery or persecution of Narcomancers, or the formation of vagrant factions.
Participants are to write a more detailed back story of one of those specific events within the plot, filling in more specifics, adding to the plot, providing motives/explanations, adding in specific NPC roles who influenced the progression of events, etc.
RULES. Entries may not exceed one thousand words in length but must be at least three hundred words • Entries must not contradict information supplied in our Plot Information • Entries are to be written in third person omniscient • Entries should not summarize the entirety of our Plot Information • Entries should aim for specific events with our plot • Entries should be posted in size one, blockquoted, and justified below • Please do not place entries within a posting table
DEADLINE. All entries must be submitted before one o'clock EST on Saturday, February eighteenth.
JUDGING. Entries will be judged based upon writing quality, but, importantly, creativity. A panel of judges consisting of myself and our three staff members will rate each entry in the two categories (quality and creativity) on a scale of 1 - 10 and 1 - 15 respectively. Meaning a perfect score would be a ten in quality and fifteen in creativity, resulting in a total of twenty five points per judge. A perfect score from all four judges would be 25 * 4, or one hundred points total. The entry with the highest total score is the winner. In the case of a tied first place, all tied participants will receive the prize.
PRIZES. First place winner(s) will receive a class advancement to the baron class for a new character or an existing character of their choice.
Second place winner(s) will receive a class advancement to the noble class for a new character or an existing character of their choice.
Third place winner(s) will receive an extra character slot.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. Entries that do not align with the listed rules will be disqualified • Winning entries may be displayed as responses to our Plot Information • Judging will most likely take several days worth of time • Only the first, second, and third place scores will be posted - Do not ask any staff member for your score
GOOD LUCK.
